Meet the Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

The Governing Body

The Governing Body of Trowell C of E Primary School is a combination of appointed and elected members. The foundation governors are appointed by the local church and the Board of Education to preserve and develop the religious character of the school. They represent the interests of the church, foundation or other organisation connected with the school and should include parents.

The Governing Body is an integral part of the school leadership team and is responsible for;

  • Setting the Christian ethos of the school
  • Developing the school improvement plan
  • Making decisions about expenditure of the school budget
  • Challenging and holding the Headteacher to account
  • They also monitor the implementation of the policies developed in consultation with the school leadership team
  • Sometimes the governing body is referred to as the critical friend. It has a strategic role: governors are not involved in the day to day running of the school.

Karen Bicknell- I am the Chair of Governors, having been a governor at Trowell for over 10 years.

My three daughters all attended our school. As well as participating in various meetings, I meet regularly with the Headteacher. I am the link governor for both SEN and safeguarding, which are supported by my work as a GP.

Dan Goddard - I have been headteacher of Trowell C of E Primary School since September 2015.

Prior to becoming head teacher I was deputy head in another local primary church school. As headteacher I sit on both governor committees and have a specific link with governors to: pupil achievement, teaching and learning, leadership and management and behaviour and safety.

I currently live in Bramcote with my wife and two children. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family as well as being involved at Beeston Free Church.

Being headteacher of Trowell C of E Primary is a real privilege. My wish for the pupils, parents and governors of the school is that we continue to provide a high quality education for all pupils using our Christian values to develop children both personally and academically. My hope is that we can provide them with a memorable experience that they will look back on years to come with great fondness.

Donna Butler – Co-opted Governor and Vice Chair

I have been a school governor for 3 years and recently appointed to Vice Chair.  I applied to be a governor because I wanted to have a better understanding of the school where I sent my most precious cargo – all 3 of my children.  My youngest is now in Year 6 so my 11 year reign standing on the playground will soon come to and end.

I have found the role at times challenging, sometimes time consuming but without doubt extremely rewarding, and now feel that with the help of the rest of governing body I have something of value to contribute which together can really make a difference.  I would encourage any parent who is even the slightest bit interested to give it a go!
