Persuasive Techniques
The Wizarding School advert is an example of a persuasive text. It uses a number of different techniques to persuade the reader to apply to their school:
- Powerful, positive adjectives
(your worksheet calls these 'weasel words' because they are boastful and arrogant like a weasel!)
- Powerful, positive phrases
- 2nd person (you/your) to speak directly to the reader
- Imperative (bossy) verbs
-Rhetorical questions
- Alliteration to make the words sound appealing
We will look at each of these techniques together during our Zoom session today. You will then complete the worksheets below to practise each skill.
