HINDU WORSHIP (PUJA)
I understand that Hindus can use puja in the temples as well as at home.
Many Hindu homes have a shrine where offerings are made and prayers are said.
A shrine can be anything: a room, a small altar or simply pictures or statues of the deity. Family members often worship together.
At a Hindu temple, different parts of the building have a different spiritual or symbolic meaning.
There is no set day for visiting the mandir – unlike some other religions. It is open every day and, if nearby, is visited to worship every day. Hindus also go to mandirs at festival times where they celebrate together. Murtis (statues) of gods are worshipped. Hindus often have a favourite god, who they like to worship.
