Week 4 - 27th April

MONDAY - SPELLING

Words with the /k/ sound spelled ‘ch.’  These words have their origins in the Greek language.

Log on to Spelling Shed or copy the words from here.  Make sure you know what all the words mean and write a definition of the word or put the word into a sentence.

Go through the power point to remind yourself about subordinating conjunctions. Try and use them in your writing this week.

TUESDAY - THE MAGIC CARPET

LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE PICTURE AND THINK ABOUT THE QUESTIONS BELOW:  

  • What is happening?
  • How is the carpet floating? 
  • Why is the carpet flying?
  • How is the boy feeling?  
  • Was he expecting this to happen? How do you know?
  • How is the dog feeling?  How do you know?
  • What happened before this picture?
  • What will happen next?

          WRITE DOWN YOUR THOUGHTS AND ADD ANY QUESTIONS  YOU CAN THINK OF RELATING TO THE PICTURE

WEDNESDAY - PLAN A STORY

Plan a story about a magic carpet - jot down your ideas using notes and think about:

-the opening paragraph:describe setting and characters

-the build up: what happens next?

- the middle: where do they go and what do they do?

-the ending: think about a twist/surprise/unusual ending.

THURSDAY - WRITE THE STORY

Use your Y3 objective sheet to remind you what to put in your writing.

Challenge 1 - can you include direct speech and punctuate it accurately.

Challenge 2 - use subordinating conjunctions.

FRIDAY - CHECK AND EDIT YOUR WORK

What improvements could you make?

Can you improve any of your words and make more exciting word choices?

Can you add a fronted adverbial/subordinating conjunction?

 

EXTRA - Imagine it is going to be made into a book -  design the front cover (include title, author and  illustrator) and write the blurb for the back.
