As the children progress through school, they develop and build upon previously taught skills (materials, techniques, tools) and reflect upon their own improvements, taking pride in their work and art journey (e.g. in their art sketch books) this promotes challenge and encourages pupils to reach up to and beyond their potential.
By taking inspiration from and developing knowledge about a diverse range of male and female artists and designers throughout history and present day (Including a wider range of artists such as Hokusai (Japanese), Frida Kahlo (Mexican), Ester Mahlangu (South African), Yayoi Kusama (Japanese)), our art curriculum embraces and encourages artistic ambitions amongst the children. It provides them with an understanding about the world and shows how they can succeed in life.
Our art lessons enable all children to achieve through clear modelling of new methods and techniques, if applicable this supports disadvantaged/SEND children to access the curriculum. All children will have opportunities to express themselves through art.
By using digital art packages to create art work using drawing, composition and typography, children are prepared for a digital world.
New vocabulary is introduced through the teaching of art such as different techniques, methods, art forms and movements. This develops language skills so children can participate in discussions about the curriculum and the world.
