Meet the Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

The Governing Body

The Governing Body of Trowell C of E Primary School is a combination of appointed and elected members. The foundation governors are appointed by the local church and the Board of Education to preserve and develop the religious character of the school. They represent the interests of the church, foundation or other organisations connected with the school and should include parents.

The Governing Body is an integral part of the school leadership team and is responsible for;

  • Setting the Christian ethos of the school
  • Developing the school improvement plan
  • Making decisions about expenditure of the school budget
  • Challenging and holding the Headteacher to account
  • They also monitor the implementation of the policies developed in consultation with the school leadership team
  • Sometimes the governing body is referred to as the critical friend. It has a strategic role: governors are not involved in the day to day running of the school.

Dan Goddard - I have been headteacher of Trowell C of E Primary School since September 2015.

Prior to becoming head teacher I was deputy head in another local primary church school. As headteacher I sit on both governor committees and have a specific link with governors to: pupil achievement, teaching and learning, leadership and management and behaviour and safety.

I currently live in Bramcote with my wife and two children. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family as well as being involved at Beeston Free Church.

Being headteacher of Trowell C of E Primary is a real privilege. My wish for the pupils, parents and governors of the school is that we continue to provide a high quality education for all pupils using our Christian values to develop children both personally and academically. My hope is that we can provide them with a memorable experience that they will look back on years to come with great fondness.

Julie Travell - Staff Governor

I began my career as an Occupational Therapist working in adult psychiatry. I have early years professional status and spent 15 years working in early education.

I am passionate about children gaining tools for life through education; and that every child has an opportunity to reach their potential in all areas of personal development.

I enjoy spending time with family (I am mum to 3 adult boys who were once pupils at Trowell School), being outdoors, walking, cycling and swimming.

I volunteer doing children’s work in a city church and have the privilege to be alongside children/families in a context outside of school; this experience gives me a little insight into some of the challenges we face today.
