Welcome to Year Five!
Believe you can do it! Aim high! Do the right thing! Love Others!
Welcome to Year 5 with Mrs Micallef- I hope you all had a fantastic summer and are ready to start a new year. There are some fantastic topics to learn this year and there will be significant focus on understanding their role in modern Britain.
In Y5, children are expected to be more independent and take on more responsibility within the classroom, especially with their own learning. You could help by:
- Ask them to pack their own bag for school so that they get into the habit of thinking for themselves and developing organisational skills.
- Encourage them to read silently for a sustained period but also please continue to hear them read regularly and ask them questions to check understanding, discuss meaning of new words or encourage them to find the meaning in a dictionary. Encourage them to read a wider range of different texts by visiting the local library or using eBooks. Books can be borrowed from the classroom as we have set up our own library system.
- continue to encourage them to use Rock stars to practise and consolidate times tables facts.
- Help them with homework projects, but let them take the lead and the initiative.
Miss Towlson will be teaching Y5 on Wednesday morning.
Mr Rawson will teach PE on Tuesday afternoon.
