Be inspired to believe, achieve and succeed together

Year 5

Welcome to Year Five!

Believe you can do it!   Aim high!   Do the right thing!   Love Others!

Welcome to Year 5 with Mrs Micallef- I hope you all had a fantastic summer and are ready to start a new year. There are some fantastic topics to learn this year and there will be significant focus on understanding their role in modern Britain.

In Y5, children are expected to be more independent and take on more responsibility within the classroom (all children will be given a job) and for their learning.

Here are a few ways you can help by giving them some responsibility at home:

  • Make them pack their own bag for school so that they get into the habit of thinking for themselves about what they need for that day.
  • Get into the routine of doing homework at a set time each week if possible. By all means help them, but make sure they make their own decisions about presentation, for example.
  • Continue to hear them read regularly, practise times tables, help them with homework, talk to them about their day, and encourage them to read a wider range of texts by visiting the local library or using eBooks. Books can be borrowed from the classroom as we have set up our own library system.

Mrs Ellisdon will be working with Y5 in the afternoons and Mr Goddard will teach Tuesday afternoon and Mrs Travell Wednesday afternoon.

PE days are Tuesday and Friday and children should come to school wearing PE kit.
